Understanding common electric motor failures and their root causes, as well as the steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of these failures occurring, will give your motor the best chance of achieving the maximum possible life and performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fallos_comunes_en_motores_electricos\"><\/span>Common failures in electric motors<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The most frequent faults in electric motors that can occur in both three-phase and single-phase induction equipment are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Blown fuses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Worn bearings or cushions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Interruption of some phases.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Overloads.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Inverted phases.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Short circuit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Wrong internal connections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Winding earthing contacts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Excessively tight cushions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Poorly fitted covers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Bent axle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rotor bars loose.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Defective capacitor (on single-phase motors with capacitor).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Interruption in the starting winding (in single-phase motors).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Interruption in the working winding (in single-phase motors).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sobrecarga_electrica\"><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><b><br \/>\nElectrical overload<\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Electrical overload is caused by excessive current flow within the motor windings, which exceeds the design current that the motor can carry efficiently and safely. This can be caused by low supply voltage, resulting in the motor drawing more current in an attempt to maintain its torque. It can also be the result of shorted conductors or excessive supply voltage.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"alert alert-warning\"><span class=\"s1\">Electrical overload can be prevented by installing effective overcurrent protection that detects overcurrent and interrupts the supply.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h4 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Baja_resistencia\"><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><b>Low resistance<\/b><\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The most common cause of electric motor failure, and possibly the most difficult to overcome, is low resistance. Keep work areas, tools and accessories as clean as possible to help eliminate the possibility of contamination entering the engine. Vibration is often caused by the position of the engine on an uneven or unstable surface. Consider contacting a specialist if the source of vibration cannot be identified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A basic principle for the detection of faults in electric motors is the observation of the daily operation of the motors and, in addition, the drawing up of an inspection programme for the motors based on their service conditions. Eventually, the frequency of inspection can be based on the experience of the out-of-service times of the motors.
