To measure the insulation resistance, a DC voltage of 500 V or 1000 V is applied between the windings and the motor ground.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">During and immediately after the measurement, do not touch any motor terminals as some of them carry dangerous voltages which can be fatal.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The minimum motor insulation resistance measured to ground at 500 V can be measured at a winding temperature of -15 \u00b0C to 20 \u00b0C. The insulation resistance of stored and active motors should be checked regularly:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">If the insulation resistance of a new, cleaned or repaired motor that has been stored for some time is less than 10 M\u03a9, the reason may be that the windings are wet and must be dried.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">For a motor in operation, the minimum insulation resistance may drop to a critical level. If the measured value of the insulation resistance is greater than the calculated value of the minimum insulation resistance, the motor can continue to operate.
