MRO Suppliers in the Automotive Sector: How to Ensure They Meet Deliveries?

April 15, 2019 by EDITORIAL

When looking for MRO suppliers in the automotive sector, purchasing managers at Tier 1 companies spend a lot of time ensuring these organisations are reliable and, of course, have the continuous capacity for deliveries, two of the most important aspects when doing business.

For example, over time, surely as an OEM purchasing manager, you've had it happen that you've placed an order and the Tier 2 supplier It has been quoted to you at an attractive price. The parts have been imported and sent to you within the agreed timeframe, however, after receiving two batches, you detect a problem and inform them that one of the basic characteristics of the parts was not as specified.

In this case, MRO suppliers in the automotive sector with continuous delivery capabilities would have to develop an action plan that begins at the very moment of the call, to then receive the rejected material as part of a return.

To resolve the situation, the supplier managed to secure domestic production that met the client's specifications, although it took longer than anticipated because the manufacturing process required a specific mould for these parts. However, once the client received the new parts and verified the quality of supplied products, unexpectedly requested an increase of 200%% daily parts, even though the parts were a bit more expensive.

In a short time, the Tier 2 supplier managed to meet that demand, fulfilling its client's needs and delivery times. These are the kinds of situations that build trust for an OEM supplier with its customers.

This is a classic example of a Tier 2 supplier with continuous delivery capability. In this regard, STANDARD SEAL, the first Parker distributor in Mexico and certified supplier to major transnational companies specialising in sealing solutions for the automotive industry, not only provides solutions from the outset but has also successfully managed to tackle situations of this nature should they arise.

A Tier 1 supplier for companies like STANDARD SEAL is responsible and capable of meeting deliveries, because it also responds to three fundamental situations that allow you, as a Tier 1 purchasing manager, to be at ease, given the possibility of a production stoppage due to a lack of parts.

These two situations are:

  • Ability to handle Containment/Non-conforming material

If any of your MRO suppliers in the automotive sector has failed to meet a parts replacement, STANDARD SEAL it's capable of lending you a hand and solving your problem with those components you need, making it a reliable supplier.

For example, if a supplier has delivered an order to you and during the incoming inspection process, as the MRO purchasing manager, you detect that the product does not meet the previously requested specifications, the parts go into containment and do not proceed to the production department as they are non-conforming material.

That situation with the pieces occurs, either due to:

  • To be a different size.
  • It does not have the required documentation.
  • The product has arrived dirty or contaminated.

In this regard, you request a replacement from your supplier, informing them of the reasons why the order was not accepted. However, many suppliers are unable to provide an immediate response. In this case, STANDARD SEAL can implement an immediate action plan to resolve the problem.

  • Safety/Regulatory Parts

Another aspect that must be taken into account to ensure that MRO suppliers in the automotive sector meet deliveries is that they have a large safety stock of parts, whereby they can respond to any eventuality such as an unplanned increase in orders.

If your current provider does not have these security features, STANDARD SEAL Not only does it have a constantly updated inventory, but it is also in optimal storage conditions.

Also, before you have any incidents with the parts, you can ensure the quality of supplied products with MRO suppliers in the automotive sector such as STANDARD SEAL, which have an inventory management system that manages to keep the supply chain functional and, of course, avoids production downtime.
